Night Shift Nurses' bloody opening sequence was enough to tell me that it wasn't going to be a very pleasant viewing experience. True enough, we're once again faced with hentai's most overdone theme of the moment -- blackmail. I mean, how else do you expect Dr. Osaka to make the nurses do his bidding? He's no looker and he doesn't have charm nor charisma... blackmail is the only way to go.

Night Shift Nurses consists of three episodes, and Dr. Osaka "trains" a different virginal young nurse in each one. Dr. Osaka searches for a nurse's weakness, and if there's none he'll cook up some scheme to make one. He then manipulates this weakness by turning it into blackmail material, which forces the nurses to let him have his way with them. Dr. Osaka then rapes the nurses (most of whom are virgins) and molests them as he pleases. It's kind of like Shusaku in a sense -- only this time the whole sordid scenario is set in a hospital instead of a school, and nurses instead of schoolgirls are the victims. I have to hand it to Dr. Osaka though, he has a lot more finesse than the sleazebag Shusaku and I felt that somewhere along the way the nurses actually grew to like him and what he would do to them. What's really strange about the whole thing is that a woman named Narumi is actually spearheading this new prostitution den... er... department that Dr. Osaka is taking care of. Narumi seems to have her own motives, and like the nurses she too was once Dr. Osaka's sex slave. Too bad we'll never know because Night Shift Nurses ends abruptly, without any indication of what's going to become of Dr. Osaka, the nurses, the hospital, or Narumi.

The art and animation are excellent. Character designs are beautiful and everything looks crystal clear and bright. Sex is depicted very, very graphically. Everything is shown, from breasts to lower genitalia to the blood that comes with the girls' first time. I was expecting some scat scenes thanks to some rumors I've heard, but surprisingly there are none. However, the doctor uses a lot of kinky props and paraphernalia, including and not limited to the examination chair, a speculum, and even a cellular phone! The English dubbing is rather poor. Dr. Osaka sounds like a raspy old man with a throat problem and I couldn't stand how the women would pronounce Japanese names and surnames such as "Fujisawa".

Night Shift Nurses had something going. I thought the whole concept of Narumi masterminding something so perverted was intriguing, and I really wanted to find out her real motives for summoning Dr. Osaka. It's really such a waste that they didn't follow through with the main plot. But if you're into medical role-playing fantasies, Night Shift Nurses will surely leave you all hot and bothered.
